August 21 2010 Holiday | Ninoy Aquino Day

It has been declared by Malacanang palace August 21 2010 as a Special Non Working Holiday in commemorating Senator Benigno S Aquino Jr death dubbed as the "Ninoy Aquino Day". In 2009, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo issued the same proclamation but of different date, declaring August 23, 2010 as a special non working holiday according to RA 9492 or the holiday economics law that all holidays be transferred on the nearest Monday. President NoyNoy Aquino modified the Republic Act declaring August 21, 2010 as the Ninoy Aquino Day. Meanwhile, some Filipinos are affected with this change.

“The purpose for observing Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21 2010 instead of August 23 is to avoid the imposition of unnecessary financial burden upon the employers, ensure the continuity of government, business, and commercial transaction, promote productivity, while at the same time preserve the solemnity of the observance,” read a statement from the Palace.

There will be no classes and works in all establishments in the specified date, August 21 2010.
